Don’t even call it a diet.

Words hold great power. Some people don’t mind the word diet. To others, it spells torture and deprivation. If you’re in this group, don’t tell yourself you’re “going on a diet.” Say you’re “starting a new eating plan” or “cutting down on calories.” Members of Overeaters Anonymous(OA), for example, say they are “abstaining from overeating.”
But don’t avoid the word diet altogether. Just change your opinion of the word. Think of a diet as a way of doing something great for yourself — not as a form of deprivation. Tell yourself you’re “cleansing your body from the inside out, freeing yourself of fat.”
