Not only is Angelina Jolie one of the highest paid Hollywood actresses, she is also deeply devoted to humanitarian work and cancer prevention.

　　Ask anyone to think of the top Hollywood actresses, and Angelina Jolie's name is sure to come up. In fact, if earnings are considered to be the key measurement of success, then Jolie would be at the top of the list, raking in the most of any actress in 2013 at US$33 million. Yet the actress is almost as well known for her family and the personal relationships in her life as she is for her films.

　　As the daughter of movie star Jon Voight and actress Marcheline Bertrand, she was, in a sense, born famous on June 14, 1975. Her parents separated when she was about one year old due to Voight's infidelity. Jolie and her older brother were raised in Los Angeles and New York City by Bertrand and Jolie's stepfather, a documentary filmmaker named Bill Day.

　　Jolie's first appearance in film was in 1982 in a movie called Lookin' to Get Out, which starred Voight and her mother, who also had a minor role. Eleven years later, she attracted notice from critics in a low budget film called Hackers. Other screen appearances followed, but it was her performance in the 1999 movie Girl, Interrupted that earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She reached a new level of worldwide fame when she was cast as the main character based on a video game in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Her bankability as a major star continued to grow when she was paired with another Hollywood megastar, Brad Pitt, for 2005's Mr. and Mrs. Smith. It was during this time that Jolie and Pitt fell in love, which gained Jolie the notoriety for breaking up his marriage to actress Jennifer Aniston. After years of dating, Jolie and Pitt got engaged in April 2012. The couple, who are reportedly planning an upcoming wedding, have six children, three of whom are adopted.
