　　Brian often bought lottery tickets, but he had never won more than a few hundred dollars in his life. He had bought so many that sometimes he even forgot to check if he had won or not. One day, he heard on the news that someone won NT$500 million nearly a year ago and still had not come forward to claim the prize. Brian wondered if he was that person they were talking about. He started looking around his apartment to see if he could find any misplaced lottery tickets.

　　After a few days of searching, Brian found a ticket that had fallen behind his desk. He checked the ticket numbers and, to his astonishment, saw that it was the winning ticket. As he rode his bike to the lottery office, Brian fantasized about all the things he would buy with NT$500 million. His dream turned into a nightmare, however, when he tried to claim his prize because the clerk told him he had missed the deadline by one day.

 

　　布莱恩时常买乐透，但在他人生当中从未中过超过几百元的奖金。他买了很多彩券，以致于有时他甚至会忘了查看自己是否有中奖。有一天，他从新闻中得知，有人大约在一年前中了新台币五亿元，不过还没有出面领奖。布莱恩想知道他们在谈论的那个人会不会就是他本人。于是他开始在家里四处寻找，看看是否能找到任何一张乱放的乐透彩券。

　　找了几天之后，布莱恩找到了一张掉落在桌子后方的彩券。他对了一下彩券号码，令他惊讶的是，发现这竟然就是那张中奖的彩券。当布莱恩骑着单车前往彩券行时，他幻想着自己将用新台币五亿元买下的所有东西。然而，正当他要领取奖金的时候，他的美梦竟变成了一场恶梦，因为店员告诉他，他已经错过了兑奖的最后期限，而且仅有一天之差。
